Banana Art?

You heard right, artwork on the side of a banana!  Canadian artist Riss has started drawing on the sides of bananas. 









So I guess my main question would be, is it worth it to put all of your time and effort into drawing on a banana peel that will go bad in a few days and have to be thrown out?  Did you also look at this article and think what will they come up with next?  Can you think of a unique artform that maybe someone should do? 

Nailed it

So today's topic might be just for the girls, but it is still an interesting topic.  As most of you know I am on pinterest quite frequently, but the one area I have never understood is fingernail art.  Don't get me wrong, I think some of the designs are really cool.  And I am really impressed by the way that someone can create such artwork on basically ten tiny canvas's. 

However, as often as my hands are in paint, clay and glue there is no way i could ever pull off some of these designs.  I would have them destroyed within the first 15 minutes of leaving a salon.

I am way to practical to ever pull these off.  I would have those first ones broken instantly.

These are also pretty, but how do you wash your hands?

So what are your thoughts?  Is this the direction art is going?  Does this reflect their personalities?  Could you tell a lot about a person from the artwork on their hands?  Have you ever had a salon do your nails in a fancy way?  Have you seen a style that you want to try?

A picture that makes you read

Have you ever looked at the picture on the outside of the book and decided right there and then if you were going to read the book or not?  Did you ever stop to think about the fact that someone got paid to design that cover?  Do you think you could do better?

 

      


Do any of these covers make you want to pick up these books and find out what they are about?  Do any of them give you clues to what they might be about?

Glass gone wild

As I have tried to show you there are all sorts of mediums you can use to create art and one of the most beautiful and most versitile is glass.  One of the best glass artists in the world is Dale Chihuly.  He is originally from Tacoma, Washington, but has studied glass work in both Wisconsin and Venice, Italy.  He currently has a work of art in all parts of the world and some of his best work is just down the road from us at the Joslyn Museum in Omaha, Nebraska.

Chihuly uses a glass blowing technique and then melts the glass together to create his wild sculptures and chandaliers.  Oh yes, some of his sculptures have lights and are actually functional works of art.

All of these projects have been made from blown glass.  Do you have a favorite picture from the above pieces?   What skills do you think you need to create work like this? 

Metal men

Korean artist Yeong-Deok Seo creates imposing figurative sculptures using tightly knit configurations of welded bicycle chains and industrial steel chains.






   




So what are your thoughts on these sculptures?  Can you think of any other types of materials or objects that you think he should try or that maybe you would even like to try?

Skoglund art

Sandy Skoglund is a photographer and an installation artist.  I would hope you all know what a photographer is, but maybe you don't know what an installation artist is.  An installation artist is someone who basically creates large art projects that encompass a room or the room itself can be considered art.  These projects are usually very large and take several months to create and sometimes it takes that long just to set them up.

Sandy has combined both of her art forms to create installation pieces that she then photographs into artwork that can be sold.  She occasionally adds real people to her created people for her photo shoots.  She also loves to use bright colors with dark colors and edible items in some of her work.


This one is called Radioactive Cats.  The man and the woman are real people, but the cats have all been sculpted and painted that bright green color.

Zevs

So you are probably wonder what Zevs is or actually who Zevs is?  Zevs is not a technique it is a french street artist who's identity is not known, but his artwork is very unique.  Zevs takes common logos and makes them look like they are smearing down the sides of buildings.  He calls them "liquidated logos."











So I am wondering, is this art or is this vandalism?  And why do you think that?
